THE SKILLED TRADES SHORTAGE IS NOW A THREAT TO CANADA'S ECONOMY, AND WE'ER NOT DOING ENOUGH TO FILL THE GAP? AUG. 7/2024
A crisis in manufacturing, A crisis in construction, Making more skilled workers: education, apprenticeships, and immigration, What would solutions look like? Recruiting people from “non-traditional” backgrounds, Recruiting more young people, Overhauling how Canada selects immigrants, Overcoming the stigma around the trades.
Hello everyone, so lets get into the first link article listed below. What's puzzling with know disrespect to Dennis Darby of the CME over the years has become a broken record. Funny how over the past 25 plus years where the associations, talk a good game, just like our colleges, universities, and government have done with so much rhetoric. Note: Here we have two posting from Universities Ontario. "By fostering highly skilled talent & cutting-edge research that
responds to local challenges, Ontario's universities are dedicated to enriching the communities they call home". Ontario's universities are excited to be partnering with @AMOPolicy at this year's AMO conference for an insight discussion about the importance of driving talent development throughout Ontario's communities, with expert economist Brian Lewis from @UofT. Now adding on to this we have "Build Force Canada", "Stats Canada", and all are concerned of the growing desperation of Canadian employers to retain experienced, skilled workers in the trades. Indeed, know one likes to be made a fool of but sometimes "BS" is just "BS". The research seems to line the pockets and never come close to the "Desperate Needs Of Canadians". 700,000 skilled trades to retire by 2028. Note; you can view this Financial Post article in our other article posting called, "Innovative Skilled Trades, Revolutionizing Professional Training & Education, Time To Change Direction".
Financial Post Aug. 21/2010 - Research is the root of all Evils, authors say. Higher Education? How Colleges Are Wasting Our Money and Failing Our Kids - And What We Can Do About It.
A crisis in manufacturing: Take manufacturing, for example, which generated $213 billion in economic activity and 1.6 million direct jobs in 2023.
CME’s economists estimated the skills shortage in the manufacturing sector cost the Canadian economy some $13 billion in 2022 in lost contracts and delayed investment. Note: here we are again flaunting Billions of Dollars Lost from the problem that interestingly was created. And their solutions are? "Fund Me, Fund Me, Fund Me".
A crisis in construction: In the construction sector, a $165-billion industry that accounts for 8 percent of Canada’s GDP, a CIBC report last year identified 80,000 vacancies across the country. Half the unfilled jobs require a skilled tradesperson to fill them. "Funny a number of years ago a bank manager at CIBC after viewing my Business Plan stated, Thomas, all you need is one"? LOL, still looking for #1.
"I do need to express the fact that this statement is problematic similar to the individual in question"? As the public service has warned the Trudeau government.
Again, here we have an intentionally stated problem called demographic growth in real terms is called "Premeditated Invasion Immigration" (My Thoughts). In my articles it has been a stated "FACT" that our Indigenous Populations have the highest demographics of youth in Canada so "WHAT HAPPENED HERE"? (And Then came Covid & the Jabs)?
Making more skilled workers: education, apprenticeships, and immigration: There are two principal ways Canada can replenish its skilled trades workforce: through education, including on-the-job training, and through immigration. Note: and "No Alternatives Mentioned" as in this New Private Industry Based Vocational Technical College/University Development? The former stream involves people (who are often young, but not always) choosing career paths that lead towards a trade. They must then find an employer who will sponsor them through an apprenticeship—a provincially regulated on-the-job learning process that typically takes two to four years to complete. Note: This new institution will deliver Skilled Trades in 26 to 28 months and Degree Totting students will also be applied to our 5 week semester programs. After that, the apprentice becomes a “journeyperson.” correction "Journeyman". Note: Education, On-The-Job-Training, Sponsored through to becoming a Journeyman, and here we have "Immigration". But for years they boasted about our Indigenous communities having the highest demographics of youth? Something wrong with this picture, where a gross influx of immigration seems fraudulent?
Mandatory, to complete an apprenticeship pending upon the discipline and the province. Tools Required, Red Seal to work across Canada, and 56 recognized trades. Many apprentices register but never actually complete their training. The completion rate in Canada is 46 percent. In some trades, the majority of people end up leaving. "The Problem Is Getting Them, And Having Them Complete". "AWE", the quick fix solution by recruiting from abroad, typical, "NO CRITICAL THOUGHT HERE" or is it just compromise in motion? Note: when you completely bastardized a culture, and think that numbers and a "Copy & Paste" from another culture with a Leash will work? I see nothing here that puts people first?
I like this thought? How interesting that all G7 countries having the same issue? CIBC estimates a mere 2 or 3 percent of newcomers to Canada over the last decade have arrived with skilled trade qualifications (and how many have arrived). "But yet all the rhetoric over the past few years stated Skilled, where we should be in abundance by now? So we are just getting bodies with know skills and hopefully they can swing a hammer? How fraudulent or intentional is this (Critical Thought)? Remember the 3 monkeys "Hear No Evil", See No Evil, Speak No Evil,?
"AWE" the fraud now appears. Critics have lambasted the federal government for even falling short of its modest goal to bring in some 3,000 skilled tradespeople annually through a targeted stream called the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Looking around the world it seems to have become more of an intentional compromise?
"WOW", Big Trouble In The Hen House With This Critical Thought. The program might attract more successful applicants if it didn’t require them to have a job offer in Canada, or Canadian trade qualifications—not easy things to procure before moving here. Great way to destroy a country and our infrastructure rather than build one? Qualifications are in play for a reason? Note; a solution expressed here in 26 to 28 months? Industry? Are your shoe laces tied to government and our colleges & universities? IF NOT, Than Critical Thinking, of Entertaining what just might benefit you is an email away?
What would a solution look like? https://www.phatevocationaltechnicalcollegeuniversity.com
I must admit they do continue to "Talk & Talk & Talk, Full & of Rhetoric" which buys you nothing "Walking The Talk" is a bridge not crossed? As expressed here in this link that requires skilled labour? "Solutions Are Made Not Talked About"? https://www.tbnewswatch.com/local-news/idle-but-not-gone-says-ontario-shipyards-8613501
Recruiting people from “non-traditional” backgrounds: A demographic necessity for industries like construction and manufacturing they say? Draw talent from the widest possible pool, "Instead of creating the widest most direct pool"? Many skilled trades, especially the most lucrative ones, have traditionally been male-dominated, with "NO" disrespect there is some reasoning behind the comment made?
Recruiting more young people: Arrowsmith says employers are often reluctant to take on the responsibilities of training young people, and could actually prove to be the weak link in high school-to-apprenticeship pipelines. Note: This new College University Development will have "NO" Leashed Led "Pre-Apprenticeship" program. You are either in it or You are Not, simple math and we will address the so called weak link straight out of high school. Employers may want to think about what is being offered in this new College University Development and just how it may benefit them?
Overhauling how Canada selects immigrants: "O", like how we have all seen and are experiencing the Tsunami of our compromising immigration? Perhaps it lies within the years of "BS" and high levels of Rhetoric with know real encouragement that challenges and inspires our youth? They have plenty of attitude which is a form of ambition and don't kid your self they know of the "BS" being played in front of them. Typical, how a few can speak for so many and accomplish nothing?
Overcoming the stigma around the trades: “I think the stigma is still largely there. Note: The Stigma was created with Rhetoric monies stated by government, universities and colleges, years of it and billions spent? Completely out of step with 21st-century reality? Really? “It means that there’s going to be a lot of competition for their talent. "AWE" the Competition for all the right reasons such as this new Industry Based Vocational Technical College University Development. Money & Students, knowing that it's there is one thing, but not always the driver behind recruitment. Recruiting more young people into the skilled trades may be a heavy lift, requiring a rejigged education system and a change in attitudes among educators and the general population. But if Canada fails to get this right, the consequences could be a country that continues to fall behind economically as its nagging productivity problem gets worse, while immigration continues to grow the population.
Note" Rejigged LOL, (The Intelligence Thought Of This Expression All By Them Selves) "WOW", and then there is the FEAR of falling behind economically and the productivity problem, the one that was created over the past 25+ years. I have followed the program of so called "Critical Thinkers" yes the one's with the BAs, Masters, Doctorates, and the P.Eng. they all just love to speak for us don't they, all "Without A Trade Background". Seems to me that we need to be in lockstep for ourselves in achieving and reversing what has been created. What's interesting is the copycat system of skills development from Germany as expressed in other blog articles adding on to our NOC, to Leash us in a system that is not Canadian and only in the best interest of our traditional institutions. "TIME FOR A CHANGE".
"It's the opportunities that inspire the ambition of tomorrow".
Health, Fitness, Focus, Nutrition, Knowing and Knowledge of "ALL" things along side our intuition that are good for you?
A definite fix is required without the rhetoric, in gaining industry partnerships?
I just have to ask "WHY" in North America, this is being taught in our universities when the North American continent is Christian Founded. Looking at our world of interesting initiatives this seems to be quite a compromise to our culture and society, why are we not teaching Christianity in our universities? You know the faith that promotes Morals, Values, Right from Wrong, Honesty and Respect. And just where might all the Funding come from supporting our universities questions Why & Where? My thoughts.
"LOL" The things that make me laugh "Fresh Ideas Needed" this institution has an enormous idea and solutions for Canadians if it's of interest?
Also with no disrespect just what is your Trade Background: Dennis Darby, Bill Ferreira, Emily Arrowsmith, Minister Marc Miller, Rick Hackett, and Brian Lewis?
NEXT: from the Second of 4 links above. Going into the Link scroll down to this tittle?
The decline in the overall participation rate could end:
Since the start of the 2000s, the growth of Canada’s labour force has been slower than that of the population aged 15 and older. As a result, the weight of the labour force among the population aged 15 and older—also known as the overall participation rate —followed a downward trend over this period. This decline was mainly the result of the large number of people born during the baby boom period who gradually retired from the labour force. This trend is not quite over, since the last cohort of baby boomers—born in 1965—will reach age 65 in 2030. Note: They are all so good at projection and very good at rejection?
We have been Promoting, & Advocating for over 20 years, presenting our claim in developing the skills of our youth, also in offering partnerships with such in our local Polytechnic College that clearly stated I am their competitor and showed their ignorance and arrogance by showing me the door. Truly, I can't imagine the shape we would be in today with what's being offered here? So sad because when you put "People First" great things start to happen. Not to be smothered with Gross Excuses and Unlimited Immigration.
NEXT: Here in this Third of 4 Links we see the fear, of the unemployment what we've all come to know and how conveniently planned perhaps, from 2015 then ramped up in 2019 Globally. My Thoughts Once Again.
As stated in the beginning of this article, and again reflecting upon this article posting from 2010 "Financial Post Aug. 21/2010 - Research is the root of all Evils, authors say. Higher Education? How Colleges Are Wasting Our Money and Failing Our Kids - And What We Can Do About It". Note: Universities Ontario: "By fostering highly skilled talent & cutting-edge research that responds to local challenges, Ontario's universities are dedicated to enriching the communities they call home".
Throughout my article postings looking as far back as 25 years the sequence of Rhetoric & R&D certainly never seems to have a shortage of funding enriching the communities they call home is pathetic?
However, here we are presenting an Alternative to the "People and Industry" stepping up Challenging, Changes, Choices, & Opportunities that are needed. Offering 3 Pathways, 1. College 2. University, 3. those who may not have been accepted in 1 & 2 or perhaps dropped out but are actually intelligent enough to know an alternative when they see one to drop back in? Statistics are 13% of students go to college, 33% go to university, 38% were employed and 12% were not employed. Average school dropouts ranges from 7 to 13%, however, for those in low-income communities high school dropouts rates are dramatically higher 30 to 50%. Here we have 50% Traditional intake and a 50% chance to inspire others with an alternative that addresses all 3 Pathways?
Next: Here in the Forth link of 4 posted above. Where it is pretty much expressed early on in this article, fostering highly skilled talent & cutting-edge research? "Dedicated to Enrich What? Or Who?", which brings me back to another posting I saw from Waterloo University Funding over a million dollars for research to study the dark matter in a Black Hole away way off in space? But yet we look around and see something more devastating, such as homeless, inflation, EVs, Big Parma, Climate Change, Post Covid Vaccine Injuries, Immigration Infestation, high cost of food, etc... Time to turn the microscope's around and start looking into the Dark Matter within our universities? Here again are My Thoughts.
Perspective: A Change Is Required For All The Right Reasons
(Globe and Mail, April 14, 2005). “U.S. Engineers need hands-on training: GM/ U.S. We can no longer afford to do engineering and design several times over around the world?
GLOBE & MAIL APR.21/03 UNIVERSITIES/ENGINEERS – Mr. Armstrong – An apprenticeship can teach the practical over the theoretical and give them a lasting employee’s eye view of the organizations. “Organizations have to become their own “Universities”, he said. They “Can’t Rely” on “Academic Institutions” to “Deliver in Graduates all Business-Related Skills They Need”.
Four years into a bachelor's program, possibly another couple in graduate or professional school, and suddenly you’re on the fast track to a fulfilling and profitable career. This is the general thinking, but most university BA and B.Sc. graduates often find themselves saddled with thousands of dollars in cumbersome student debt. (And No Job)?
"To my knowledge, at no time since 1975 has PEO raised, or even considered, the issue of making apprenticeship training a prerequisite for a P. Eng. Qualification in the fields of mechanical, electrical or civil engineering – a system that exists in some European countries.(Engineering Dimensions Magazine, Nov-Dec. /00)"
PEO - Professional Engineers Ontario; Note: Consequently many new graduates never get licensed because they can't find a suitable job with a Professional Engineer as a mentor. To improve this situation will require the co-operation of employers to create entry level internship positions, and assign a professional Engineer as a mentor. So it will take a lot of time and perhaps some incentives from government before the situation improves? Note; in this institutional development we plan to address this problem?
A gentleman shared his views with me when I was on LinkedIn a number of years ago "We are churning out a generation of poorly educated people, with know skills, no ambition, no guidance, and no realistic expectations of what it means to go to work"? "ARE WE"?
Another interesting "Quote" from a gentleman when I was on LinkedIn a number of years ago. Where we make a difference Nationally & Internationally in Skilled Trades, Unions, and the overall need for awareness and efficiency. Respectfully it is the Journeyman Tradesman that is most likely to invent, innovate and adopt the next generation of Technology. History - England - Industry Revolution, time after time it was the tradesman that optimized Technology. In order to make the first step which was often made in lockstep with Tradesman brothers within the organization. Here we are again to make that great leap forward.
National Post Aug.22/2019 Jack M. Mintz " Low Productivity is making Canada Poorer"
Postmodern Philosophy - Postmodernists appear to deny that an objective reality exists, and appear to deny that there are objective moral value. Postmodernism states, that there is no real truth, no objective reality?

The original Lord's prayer?
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Apr 3, 2023
